City Games 2016 international finals: Biograd n/M

Herceg Novi defended the championship title!

Three-month long search for a new City Games champion ended yesterday at the Biograd waterfront, where we held the international City Games finals as we did for many years before. Huge audience had the opportunity to enjoy the clash of the best teams from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Italy and Serbia. Despite the great competition, championship title was won by Herceg Novi, more precisely Casa Igalo team, thanks to their rich experience, great game and top form of their players. They managed to defend last year’s title and secure another gold for their city and country. In addition to medals, they also received championship rings made by Križek Jewelry.

Teams played six demanding games, which turned out to be not so easy even for those more experienced. In first two games, flying water polo and battle, Croatian team from the island of Krk won, while Montenegro was behind them. In the games that followed, wine and sea alka, Velenje from Slovenia and Italian team Moconesi came to the fore as well, so everything became possible. All this dedication and fantastic play were rewarded by the audience. The atmosphere was awesome and culminated in the last game that decided the winner – paddle!

Croatian team from Krk – Daj Mare – won the third place, while the second place was won by Slovenian team Velenje. In five years of their participation, this is their 4th silver. Italian team was missing just one point for the medal, but they were not sad – it’s the charm of the game. Bit less lucky were Citluk from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia’s Kragujevac. They both lacked a bit of experience, but gained a lot of it in yesterday’s finals so we are sure we’ll be seeing them again next year, in the 8th City Games season!

The organization of the finals was flawless and for that we have to thank one more time to the City of Biograd, which was a wonderful host as every year. See you in 2017!
